Rimbey Gas Plant is a Finalist at the 2002 Emerald Awards

Plant decreases sulphur emissions by 75 percent

May 10, 2002

Calgary, May 10th, 2002 – KeySpan Energy Canada’s “Rimbey Gas Plant - Clean Air Initiative” was chosen last week as a finalist in the “Large Business” category of the 2002 Emerald Awards, a provincial awards program that recognizes the efforts of Albertans and Alberta businesses to protect, enhance and sustain the environment.

Rimbey Gas Plant recently completed a three-phase, $20 million ‘Clean Air Initiative’ that improved air quality in the regional air shed creating numerous sustainable environmental and industrial benefits.

"Our investment in the Rimbey Plant was not motivated by regulatory requirements nor did it result in additional processing capacity - the project was driven by a sound decision which combined both environmental and business objectives. The results were lower sulphur emissions and laying the groundwork for the future consolidation of smaller, less efficient plants in the area which will further benefit the air quality in the region," says KeySpan Energy Canada's President, Jim Bertram.

The outcome of the plant investment has been an impressive 75 percent decrease in sulphur emissions. The initiative at the plant has also resulted in the formation of a new multi-stakeholder group which will create an open forum for both the public and industry to discuss and address environmental concerns and sustainable development in the area.

The winner will be announced at the 11th Annual Emerald Awards which take place on Wednesday, June 12th in Edmonton.

KeySpan Energy Canada is the largest independent natural gas midstream business in western Canada, providing a range of integrated gathering, processing, fractionation, storage, transportation and marketing services. The company's assets include interests in 13 natural gas processing plants and associated gathering systems, with aggregate processing capacity of 1.4 billion cubic feet per day, along with natural gas liquids transportation, fractionation and storage facilities connected to the western Canadian NGL hub near Edmonton, Alberta.
