KeySpan’s Rimbey Gas Plant Wins Emerald Award

Jun 12, 2002

Calgary, June 12th, 2002 – KeySpan Energy Canada’s “Rimbey Gas Plant - Clean Air Initiative” was chosen last night as the 2002 “Large Business” Emerald Award winner at a ceremony in Edmonton. The win represents the first time in the history of the Emerald Awards that an oil and gas midstream company has been selected in the category of “Large Business.”

The Rimbey Gas Plant recently completed a three-phase, $20 million ‘Clean Air Initiative’, which has realized a 75 percent decrease in sulphur emissions that has improved air quality in the regional airshed.

KeySpan’s Energy Canada’s Vice President of Operations, Dave Lovitt, accepted the award for the project and dedicated the win to all KeySpan employees for their commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

“This award highlights the steps KeySpan is taking to improve operations and our commitment to the communities where we live and work,” said Lovitt.

KeySpan commissioned the multi-million dollar project of the Rimbey facility in 2000 with the goal of improving air quality. When the third and final project phase was completed in March 2001, the plant not only reduced sulphur emissions by 75 percent, but also played a key-role in the formation of a new regional multi-stakeholder group for the area.

“The Rimbey Gas Plant Clean Air Initiative certainly went the extra mile with this voluntary investment, but the real accomplishment here is air quality for the people of the Rimbey area and the environment,” said Rod Sikora, KeySpan’s Environment Manager.

KeySpan Energy Canada is the largest independent natural gas midstream business in western Canada, providing a range of integrated gathering, processing, fractionation, storage, transportation and marketing services. The company's assets include interests in 13 natural gas processing plants and associated gathering systems, with aggregate processing capacity of 1.4 billion cubic feet per day, along with natural gas liquids transportation, fractionation and storage facilities connected to the western Canadian NGL hub near Edmonton, Alberta.
