KeySpan Brazeau River Gas Plant - 2003 Emerald Award Finalist

Jun 12, 2003

Calgary, June 12, 2003 – KeySpan Energy Canada’s Brazeau River Gas Plant was chosen as a

finalist in this year’s 2003 Emerald Award in the “Climate Change” category. The Alberta Emerald

Foundation’s annual awards program recognizes the efforts of Albertans and Alberta businesses to

protect, enhance and sustain the environment.

The Brazeau River Gas Plant recently commissioned Alberta’s largest acid gas re-injection facility. By

re-injecting carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide into a depleted reservoir, the facility is reducing

carbon dioxide emissions associated with the gas plant and is currently achieving a 100% reduction in

sulphur dioxide emissions.

"This investment in the Brazeau River Gas Plant is an example of one of our corporate business

objectives, to lower emissions and increase the plant’s processing capacity. This additional capacity

comes at a time when our customers are anxious to bring on new supplies of natural gas to effectively

meet the increasing North American demand. In addition, the project contributes to the provincial and

federal action plans on climate change. It is clearly a win – win project," says KeySpan's President, Jim

Bertram.

This is the second time the Emerald Award Foundation has recognized KeySpan’s environmental

management achievements. KeySpan received the 2002 Emerald Award for the Rimbey Gas Plant’s

Clean Air Initiative in the “Large Business” category.

KeySpan Energy Canada operates one of the largest independent natural gas midstream businesses in

Canada. Its business consists of both natural gas gathering and processing, as well as the

transportation, storage, and marketing of natural gas liquids (NGLs). KeySpan’s 13 gas processing

plants and associated facilities are strategically located in the west central and foothills natural gas

production area of Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin in Alberta. They are pipeline-connected and

offer a wide range of flexible services. KeySpan’s NGL infrastructure consists of pipeline, processing

and storage in Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, a major North American NGL hub.

KeySpan Energy Canada is jointly owned by KeySpan Facilities Income Fund (TSX:KEY.UN) and

KeySpan Corporation (NYSE:KSE). Additional information on KeySpan Energy Canada and KeySpan
